The iPhone 14 mini illustrates that you don't need a large phone to have a lot of power. While it's smaller than almost every other phone on the market today, it still has some of the greatest cameras and performance.

You won't get some of Apple's pro-level features, such as a 120Hz refresh rate or a telephoto camera, but you'll get the same experience as the standard iPhone 14, including the mighty A15 Bionic processor, a top-quality (albeit smaller) display, and all of the new iOS features, such as Cinematic mode.

We'll see how the greatest little phone in the world compares to its predecessor and the competition in this iPhone 14 mini review. Also see our iPhone 14 Pro Max review, iPhone 14 Pro review, and iPhone 14 review.

The iPhone 14 mini's price and release date

The iPhone 14 mini is currently available for purchase. The 128GB model costs $699, with the 256GB variant costing $799 and the 512GB model costing $999. Yes, Apple increased the basic storage capacity while keeping the pricing constant this year. The iPhone 14 mini for $699 is a terrific price when you consider all of the power it has under the hood.

The iPhone 14 small starts at £679 in the UK, with the 256GB model costing £779 and the 512GB variant costing a hefty £979.

However, you may opt to wait another year for the iPhone 14 before upgrading from your existing Apple phone. If so, take a look at the seven most significant enhancements we expect from the iPhone 14.

Design of the iPhone 14 mini

With the exception of the notch, the iPhone 14 appears to be nearly identical to its predecessor.According to Apple, it's around 20% smaller this year, and the difference is evident. Even if the notch remains, it's good to have extra screen real estate.

The iPhone 14 mini has the same squared-off corners, and despite its small size, it is still comfortably pocketable, and I was able to operate it with one hand. All iPhone 14 versions are IP68-certified, which means the 13 mini can withstand being submerged for 30 minutes at a depth of six meters.

I'm upset that the iPhone 14 mini lacks mask-friendly authentication. Face ID has not been adapted by Apple to the mask life that many of us still live. I'd want to see Apple improve Face ID or introduce Touch ID in the future.

Display on the iPhone 14 mini

The 5.4-inch OLED display on the iPhone 14 mini is mostly identical to last year, but there is a significant increase in brightness.

Thanks to the OLED display, colors are bright and brilliant, with realistic, deep blacks. I was amazed at how effectively the phone displayed the vivid color pallet when playing Genshin Impact (an intriguing experience on such a small phone). With a rich contrast between the orange fog and the shadows, the iPhone 14 mini captured the scene of Blade Runner 2049's third act effectively.

In comparison to the iPhone 13 small and the Galaxy S21, the iPhone 14 mini performs admirably, with slightly higher saturation than Samsung's phone. The Delta-E color accuracy score, which ranges from 0 to 1, gives the S21 a tiny advantage.

The iPhone 14 small gets sufficiently bright enough to see outside, with a maximum brightness of 788 nits in our tests. This is particularly useful for photography since it allows you to see the photographs you made even while you're standing in bright sunshine.

Cameras on the iPhone 14 mini

This year, the iPhone 14 mini received significant camera enhancements. The main 12MP camera features a bigger sensor that lets more light in, resulting in better shots in low-light situations. Apple also incorporated sensor-shift optical picture stabilization on the iPhone 13 Pro Max. This should make things even more stable than they are with regular OIS.

The 12MP ultrawide camera has a bigger sensor as well. There's also autofocus on board now, which may make a considerable difference in the sharpness of ultrawide images.

The phones had to catch the blue seats, brilliant red door, white wall, and hazy sky beyond in this first outside photo. The image on the iPhone 14 mini is substantially richer, with brighter colors and a greater feeling of depth. In comparison, the Galaxy S21 appears washed out and flat. Aside from that, the two photographs are very similar, albeit I believe the iPhone's is more lifelike.

The same thing happened in this shot of flowers on a tree. The iPhone managed to capture a more vivid image without oversaturating it. The weathered blue wall on the left and the orange umbrella in the backdrop appear to be real. The S21, as is typical of Samsung, had some oversaturation issues, but it also battled with sunshine where the iPhone did not—the S21's image exhibits some lens flare.

As we entered the building, the iPhone 14 mini recorded this sight well. It was able to manage both natural and artificial light while keeping the contrast and shadows. The ambiance and tone of the space are captured in this shot, which has an artistic feel to it. In addition, the Galaxy S21 provided a brighter image than the iPhone. However, it over-boosted the highlights, resulting in a loss of contrast. The finished image seems a little flat, and while it is brighter, it is not what I saw in that room.

Both phones are practically identical in this second indoor photograph. The iPhone image is somewhat warmer, while the S21 image is significantly brighter. The ambiance of this scenario was captured on both phones, with a great focus on the tree adornment. The red of the books up above in the S21's photograph, on the other hand, appears washed out, but they are a vivid red in the iPhone's image.

In terms of portraiture, both phones are really comparable. To match the lighting that day, the iPhone 14 mini chose a somewhat warmer tone, while the Galaxy S21 toned things down and brightened the final image. Not only does the green in the iPhone photo appear to be more vibrant, but the orange automobile behind me also appears to be more prominent. The identical automobile appears faded in the S21's picture. Even though the S21 applied too much facial smoothing, both phones attained near-perfect blur radii.

Check out this awesome vintage Beetle junk heap for the ultrawide test. The iPhone's shot has a little crispier focus than the S21's. It's hard not to notice the color difference between the iPhone and the S21, with the iPhone seeming richer and the S21 looking washed out. In the iPhone photo, the yellow beetle appears to be a little more vibrant, but in the S21 photo, it appears to be a little too faded. This all comes back to what I said in the last section about the outdoors.

As you can see, night mode was rather intriguing. The Galaxy S21 took a significantly brighter shot of this smoker in the dead of night than the iPhone 14 mini. Not only is the smoker in sharper focus with more features, but the fence slats in the distance are also more visible. Given how wonderful Apple's Night mode is generally, I was expecting a lot more from the iPhone.

Finally, the two phones took two quite different methods when it comes to front-facing camera comparisons. The iPhone 14 mini chose a softer, warmer tone, bringing out the reds in my face and the reds on my clothing behind me. The Galaxy S21 substantially brightened and cooled everything down, brightening my eyes but also adding too much facial smoothing.

I took the Galaxy S21 along for the following camera comparisons, so you can see how Samsung's finest stacks up against Apple's latest flagship.

How to Choose the Best Phone Case

If you've ever stood in front of a wall of phone cases, you know how difficult it is to choose the perfect case for you. It's easy to become lost in a sea of glistening hues, exotic designs, and crazy patterns when there are so many alternatives. Don't worry, we're here to assist you.

purposes

Before you even consider the style to choose, you need to consider why you require a phone case. Although the aim may appear to be self-evident, instances come with a wide range of intents and criteria.

Casely, for example, has cases that are either purely decorative or specifically intended for MagSafe compatibility.

Some cases now come with waterproof protection, while others may be used as portable charging docks or wallets with credit card slots.

It might be complicated with so many possibilities available, but before you start looking at cases, identify what you need the case for to help guide your decision.

Protection

In practice, a phone cover protects the pricey phone underneath it, but not all cases offer the same amount of protection, according to DigitalTrends. Some cases provide more substantial protection in the front, while others choose to add extra strength in the rear. Others prefer the superior, but larger, all-around defense.

In general, the larger the phone case, the better the protection. Although this rule does not apply to high-end cases, better protection usually comes in the form of thicker protection.

Consider what amount of protection you require. Do you operate in a hazardous area, such as a construction zone, where your case might be jeopardized? Or are you regarded as a "phone breaker" because of your proclivity for mishaps? The level of protection you require depends on your lifestyle and work environment.

Style

One of the most crucial elements to consider for many people is the design style of a phone case. However, choosing a case style is more difficult than choosing a piece of clothing that you just wear once in a while. A phone cover is always with you and says a lot about the person who owns it, so it's critical to get it properly.

Choose a design that you believe will resonate with you for a long time. Otherwise, you'll be back in the shop with the same problem the following week.

Feel

The way the phone feels in your hands with the new case is something that many people overlook or entirely forget about. Do you find it pleasant to hold the phone? Do you have any trouble pressing any of the side buttons? Is there a decent grip on both sides of the case?

The feel is also influenced by the substance. Rubber and silicone are the most gripping materials. Some companies, such as Apple, have begun to use innovative flexible materials such as liquid silicone, which have a soft feel yet provide outstanding grip.

What is the Best Way to Clean a Clear Case?

We don't want to terrify you by telling you how many germs are likely on the surface of your phone (hint: it's about 17,000 distinct bacteria types), but cleaning it off on a regular basis is generally a good idea. To keep germs at bay, you might wish to invest in a phone sanitizer.

Here's how to get rid of germs on your see-through phone cover without destroying the crystal-clear translucency or any unique patterns.

Step 1: Remove the Cover – The first step in any effective cleaning session is to remove the case and lay your phone aside so you can get into all of the case's nooks and crannies on both sides. It will also help you clean the inside of the case, which has most likely become filthy.

Step 2: Make Your Cleaning Solution: Using harsh cleaning solutions to clean your phone or case risks damaging the finish and transferring bacteria to your phone.Ammonia, bleach, and glass cleaners should all be avoided since they are caustic, abrasive, and may include discolouring agents that might cloud or stain your case. To make a gentle cleaning solution, combine mild soap (such as a gentle dish soap devoid of phosphates, perfumes, colours, and abrasives) and warm water. If you have a significant stain, you may clean the case with isopropyl alcohol or a baking soda combination without fear of it staining or clouding.

Step 3: Clean the Case — Begin by blowing any particularly dusty crevices out with a moderate stream of compressed air, if your case has any.Clean the interior and exterior of the case with a clean cloth, a soft-bristled scrub brush, or a toothbrush dipped in your soap combination. Particular attention should be paid to the corners and edges, which tend to acquire dirt, dust, and grime with time.

Step 4: Let It Dry – You don't want any errant droplets to travel to your phone or any of its ports, so a complete dry is essential to the case-cleaning procedure. Leftover moisture might become trapped in the little components and portions of your case, allowing mould and moisture to form. Allow your case to air dry in a well-ventilated place or wipe it clean with a dry microfiber towel to absorb any remaining droplets.

Last Thoughts

Choosing a new iPhone 14 Mini Case is an important decision that should be carefully considered. A decent quality case that you like will last you a long time, so it's worth taking your time when selecting a decision.
